A Great Way to Combat Negativity In Your Practice
May 19, 2022Your behavior is contagious. As the leader of your practice, your behavior can (and will) dictate how the day progresses. Your team and colleagues look to you for their cue & how you show up will influence their behavior (positive or negative). This happens whether you realize it or not.
Think about the last time you walked in with a problem heavy on your mind. If you showed your negative emotions even slightly, word likely spread quickly to “stay out of the way” because you were upset about something. Contrast that with a time you came in whistling with positive comments or genuine compliments for others & people likely responded with a smile & went about their responsibilities with renewed energy.
Every day is obviously not going to be the best, but keeping your emotions on the positive, problem solving side rather than the angry/pity filled side will help you maintain control as well as guide your team to do the same. This doesn’t mean walk around being fake or avoiding problems that come up. It means leading your team to positive and effective problem solving while keeping negative/non-productive emotions in check.
The same applies to employees who are constantly negative. You will do yourself (and your business) a favor if you address this early on so your team focuses on solutions rather than problems. In fact, when employees share any concerns, I require them to have at least one solution to the problem in mind when they bring it up for discussion. This changes their mindset and reinforces their value as an important team member.
Let me know if I can be of any assistance to you or your practice. Have a great day!
