Just Take the First Step
Jun 02, 2021I love this quote from Martin Luther King – You don’t need to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step. I love it so much, we just had it framed and posted above the scale in our office at the Center for Weight Loss Success.
It not only applies to the weight loss patients we serve, but to all of us as business owners as well.
I find that when I am working with an independent physician, his/her team or a larger health system, integrating a new product or service or changing ‘the way things have always been done’ can be overwhelming and create a real sense of anxiety. So much so that the desire to put on the breaks is palpable (and often verbalized). This can be the result of a previously failed effort, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of change, poor team dynamics and/or many other things.
Nonetheless, the need for a new product or service was identified. The desire for something better was verbalized. Everyone’s ‘gut’ feeling is that this would be a good and welcome change. The belief is that the change can better the practice, help attract more patients and improve their outcomes. Yet, there is resistance and confusion about what to do next.
This is the exact time to dig in! To explore your vision for the future. To identify the potential obstacles to your success, to map out the steps that will get you there and figure out what to do first and do it! A plan brings sanity, accountability brings action and with action comes momentum. A coach who has been there can be very helpful, or you can choose to do it on your own. The bottom line is to get going in a methodical (yet exhilarating) way.
Your weight loss patients look to you for this very same process. A dynamite program led by an expert who cares and understands them, awesome coaches for accountability and personalization, excellent products to ‘speed things along’ and a tried and true roadmap that leads to success.
They (and you) don’t need to see the whole staircase. You just need to take the first step!
