What’s one of the best things you can do for your employees? There are many things you can do to support your employees. However, sincerely reaching out when you see them struggling is one of the most impactful.
We have the pleasure of working with an employee who is great at her job. She is efficient, pleasant, organized, willing to help others and compassionate with our patients. However, she struggles with getting to work on time. This is a problem.
Instead of repeated discipline, I chose to ask her permission to sit down and evaluate her morning routine together to discover areas that could be ‘tweaked’ to ensure an on time arrival. She was receptive and our interaction was fun!
Like most moms balancing home, pets, kids, volunteer activities, meals and cleaning the house, finding a balance between evening and morning routine is difficult. However, upon review, we found about 2 hours of activities that could be switched between evening and morning. This requires getting up a bit earlier, but allows her time with family at night, a decent bedtime and still time in the morning to make sure all is in order before she leaves for work. An alarm on her phone 10 minutes before she has to leave helps her stay on time too.
Change is hard for all of use, but the new schedule seems to be working out. She is arriving to work earlier than her start time with less of a morning rush J
