What to Do if You Feel Dissatisfied with Your Life or Your Practice

Have you ever had that gnawing sense of dissatisfaction that keeps eating away at you? It could be something with your personal life or your business. But you have that sense of you’re not feeling fulfilled or as happy or excited as you used to. There’s something that’s causing dissatisfaction in your life.  The first thing to do is to figure out what that is. We’re going to focus on business.

You might be coming into the office and your usual zest isn’t there. You’re just going through the motions and you keep getting the same results. Yet, that’s comfortable because that’s what everyone is used to. But you know that it’s not where you could be so it creates a sense of dissatisfaction. It’s typically related to what our expectations are. When your expectations and what your reality is don’t match up, it creates a gnawing sense of dissatisfaction. That’s why people stay in jobs they really don’t enjoy for years and years because the expectation in their life might be to just have a stable job to support the family. But they really might have an inner desire to do something different. It relates to our relationships, our health, and fitness. What do you do about it?

The first thing you can do is change your expectations. That may involve raising your expectations or lowering them. That could be related to a certain event in your life, a diagnosis, or something else. You can do this with your team as well. Changing their expectations often cause them to rise the occasion and actually preform at a much higher level than you may have ever thought possible. I’m not going to recommend you just stay comfortable and lower your expectations so you can just keep getting the same results or have the same reality.

The second thing is to modify what your actions are. We can have expectations or a vision but it’s not going to move the needle in your business or your life if you don’t change your behavior.  We deal with this every day with weight loss patients. They need to change their behavior/habits. So that is the second side of the equation that’s going to help lower that sense of dissatisfaction and bring more fulfillment to you and your business.

stay motivatedYou might ask what actions you should take. That’s going to be specific to whatever the issue is that’s causing the dissatisfaction. A lot of times it’s just one of those things where you can take a step back and make a change in your expectation, some of the actions will fall into place. I encourage you to include your partner and your team in this process. We want to make sure we make the most of this year and every quarter we have in our business.
